Report suspected fraud through our Support Line

Urgent language can pressure victims into acting without thinking. Messages such as “Your account will be blocked” or “Respond immediately” are warning signs.

Be cautious of messages from the Bank asking you to access your account via links. Do not click! Banco Montepio never sends links to its customers.

Fraudulent messages often contain spelling mistakes, poorly constructed sentences or incorrect translations. These signs may indicate that the communication is not official.

Banks never ask for PINs, passwords or security codes by email, SMS or phone. Never share your personal or banking details without verifying the authenticity of the contact.

Fraudsters use fake websites that closely resemble official ones to steal personal and banking information via SMS or email.

Identify and Act Prevent

In-store payments.

Use cards through digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay or MB WAY.
Prefer contactless payments.
Always check the amount on the payment terminal before paying.
Never hand your card to the merchant. Insert or tap it yourself.
Always ask for and keep the receipt.

Online shopping.

Only shop on trusted websites; check that clear company information is provided, including contact details, address and policies, as well as https:// in the URL.
Beware of unrealistic prices; websites offering discounts far below market prices may be used to steal your data.
Check recent reviews and complaints on independent platforms about products and services.

Ignore links received by email, SMS or sponsored ads, as these are common warning signs of fraud.
